Cuchillo de Monte, or Plug Bayonet, 18th Century.
This belt knife was popular with the Spanish soldiers on the frontier of Northern New Spain. In combat it could be converted to use as a bayonet by inserting its round handle into the barrel of an escopeta. A nice example of a hard to find frontier weapon. Brass edges nicely decorated.
Condition: Pitting to blade; some damage to one side of turned horn handle.
