Chinese Export Porcelain Armorial Plate from the Thomas A.P. Catesby and Mary Walker Jones Service, Virginia, Circa 1823

Size: 7 ½” diameter. Condition is excellent. Jones entered the US Navy in 1805 and trained under Isaac Hull and Stephen Decatur. In 1815, he was wounded defending New Orleans from the British advance. He is most well known for his capture of Monterey, CA in 1842, when he mistakenly thought that a state of war existed between Mexico and the United States. He commanded the entire US Pacific Fleet in 1825, 1842 and 1844.
