Gorgeous 1944 U. S. Naval Academy Yearbook: The Lucky Bag. Contains several fabulous color plates. Bound in a sturdy embossed cloth cover with a handsome bas relief of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. “William F. Dyroff” (class of ‘45) embossed on the front cover.
Future American astronauts pictured: “Wally” Walter M. Schirra, an original member of the Project Mercury Space Program on pg. 411 and Alan B. Shepard, the first American astronaut and second person to travel into space on pp. 138 and 403.
Two page spread on the Army-Navy Classic Football Game (Navy 14 – Army 0).
This massive yearbook weighs nearly 10 lbs. and measures approx. 14 3/8 x 11 5/8 x 2
Note: William Dyroff (class of 1945) served as a U.S. Marine for nearly 30 years. After retiring with the rank of Colonel Mr. Dyroff spent many years writing a column on outdoor recreation for the Albuquerque Journal in New Mexico.
Condition is very good with only some bumping to board and page corners, maybe one or two page corners were turned down at some point, and some minor handling marks. Book is complete with no major issues. A really fine example of this historic yearbook.
